The Gladestry Community

Gladestry Village playground

The situation with the playground in Gladestry is that Powys CC are no longer able to maintain the play equipment.  The responsibility will pass to the village once the lock-down is over.  If as a community we are unable to meet the terms of insurance, to be taken out by the Village Hall, then the playground will close.
The play equipment must be inspected for wear, potential hazard every four weeks, and recorded in a log book with the name of the volunteers that looked over the equipment.  I am hoping to find a group of volunteers to do this, perhaps done in pairs.  I need to keep a photographic record of entries.  If anything is not right I need to be informed.  Should very basic remedial work be need then I am looking for community help with this too.  I have one definite person, perhaps two.  It is the monthly check that I need more cover on.

Should a major issue be identified then we need to cordon off the particular piece of equipment so it cannot be used.

Please note that an annual safety inspection is carried out by the official body for playground safety approved by the ROSPA. I am grateful for the offer of Kenneth Waugh for the local council to cover the cost of this.  The next ROSPA inspection is planned for when the lock-down is over.  We can circulate the report to helpers.
Please pass this with your friends who are willing to consider doing a monthly check. Apart from noting it has been carried out and is in good order, and a copy passed to me, if any issue - potential or actual - I just need to flag it up and we can then arrange to what action is necessary.
This will give us the opportunity to keep the playground for the future of the children and families in Gladestry.

 Many thanks,
 Michael Johnson
